What is your role on the team?
Data Coordinator, but what that actually means is I ensure our customers receive high-quality data on time every week. I’m also involved in onboarding new customers and invoicing.
What is a unique talent you have that few people know about?
I grew up in a household where the primary breadwinner was a music teacher, so naturally I was forced heavily encouraged to learn a few musical instruments. I enjoyed it though and it provided me with many opportunities I never would have had otherwise — I even started out my time at UW as a trumpet performance major.
At what point will a customer meet you?
A customer’s first interaction with me is most likely during the on-boarding process, where I help narrow down their search parameters to make sure they start off receiving the best information we can provide from the get-go. At Curate, we understand a company’s needs change over time, so I’m also likely leading the charge when they want to receive different kinds of information!
How have your past experiences helped prepare you for what you do now?
As a UW-Madison alumnus, I learned that in order to stand out, you have to be excellent. Who wants to blend in with the crowd, anyways?
I graduated with a B.S. in Economics and English, which provided me with the right combination of language and analytical skills for the job. Regardless, one of the most important skills I’ve picked up is the ability to work effectively while maintaining a sense of urgency required to reach deadlines.
What is the craziest or funniest thing you’ve seen discussed in a municipality meeting?
Since Curate scans through thousands of documents a week, I’ve seen a lot of interesting tidbits in different municipalities. Between citizens concerned about their miniature pigs, illicit behavior at massage parlors, and ordinances about sexting, it’s difficult to pick one, but probably the most memorable piece of info I found was in the city of Nowthen, MN. One citizen on an angry rant about their Mayor’s leadership skills, even stating he wouldn’t be able to “lead a whore into bed.” That’s pretty funny.
What is the most rewarding part of the job for you?
This is probably going to sound generic but only because it’s true. The most rewarding part of the job is working with a team of competent individuals with a common goal, as well as experiencing the personal responsibility and accountability that comes with it.
